Aquarius—tendencies of Sun Signs, 9/12
Air Signs
Aquarius Suns live life according to their ideals of what is best for humanity. They take their beliefs very seriously. They are typically dedicated to examining and testing whether their ideologies can truly work in practice. As a result, they can often come across as a little off-kilter with the rest of society as they are focused on testing out different modes of living.
Trying to move the needle forward for humanity, Aquarius Suns can come across as strange, quirky, high-minded, and ethereal. They aren’t usually trying to stand out—but they don’t mind standing apart. This can be true for Aquarius Moons and Risings as well. For younger Gen Z folks, who often have Neptune in Aquarius, this is not a bad look at all, as this generation particularly idealizes those who are willing to stand apart.
Aquarius Suns do not tend to live according to personal vibes but rather tend to be deeply rooted in their family, ancestral, or societal mythos. Whatever their background, Aquarius Suns are likely to be living out the logic and rules of their inherited belief system to a higher degree than other folks. When young, they are likely attached to their belief system of origin, and will apply this logic to their lives with high dedication, with strict adherence to rules. This can make them especially dedicated religious people, or perhaps avid skeptics or hippies, depending on their family background. As they age and especially nearing their first Saturn Return around age 30, they may start to address the cracks in their worldview and can potentially radically shift to a new perspective and lifestyle. Aquarius Suns will usually apply their new perspectives just as seriously as they applied the old one.
The Sun is in detriment in Aquarius, meaning it’s in the opposite of its most powerful position. This tells us more about the nature of an Aquarius Sun: It’s not about personal power, the Sun’s natural realm. It’s about living out their ideological beliefs, even at the expense of personal power. Aquarius Suns are determined to follow their inner purpose no matter the social costs. If under the Sun’s bright rays of fame and stardom, which can be a little overwhelming for an Aquarius Sun, they may end up putting extra protections in place to handle their notoriety and find some way to keep more distance from it all.
Aquarius is ruled by Saturn in traditional Hellenistic astrology. Saturn can be anywhere in the chart relative to the Sun. Particularly good positions for Saturn would be in Capricorn or Aquarius, where Saturn is in dignity as the ruler, or in Libra where Saturn is exalted. These signs are most aligned with the essential nature of Saturn and cooperate with its goals best. Less fortunate positions for Saturn would be Cancer or Leo, where Saturn is in detriment, or Aries, where it’s in fall. Saturn’s energy does not flow well within these signs and there can be greater struggles in trying to harness Saturn’s benefits. Saturn creates things that last the test of time by applying limiting filters which add structure to life.
Pluto is currently moving through Aquarius which will have major impacts on Aquarius Suns and those with any significant Aquarius placements. Consider booking a session with me if you are interested in exploring this dynamic in your own life.
As always, these are only stereotypes, that some people will fall outside of. Astrology is very complicated and the whole chart needs to be considered for accuracy. I’m available for personal readings at my site: sangastrology.com
