no birth time natal charts

I’m thinking a lot lately about astrological birth chart readings for people without birth times. It’s coming up a lot in my life, how so many people don’t have access to an accurate time.

I think it’s unfair to them that so much of astrology revolves around accurate birth times, which is something you have absolutely no control over.

Also, sometimes a birth time is simply wrong. My partner’s daughter birth certificate lists her birth time as 3 hours earlier than he wrote down (he was there). He thinks the midwife falsified it to help avoid a malpractice claim—the birth didn’t go well.

Anyway, I am trying to keep track of techniques I come across that don’t rely on birth time. I want to come up with a fun and meaningful reading style for people in the situation.

Bernadette Brady’s Fixed Stars book has some good ideas on this. She suggests finding all the relevant stars with co-rising with planets on the day in question. This is more of a whole-sky approach, which I think carries a lot of potential for interpretation. Traditional western astrology is focused on the ecliptic.

I also think if you focus on planetary powers/energy, you can pay more attention to planetary and star aspects rather than houses (which rely on birth time).

I’m going to keep developing this approach over the years. I want everyone to have access to helpful astrology.
